Default Spare wheel sub or removable tube???

Right chaps,
This might turn into a bit of a long one but try to stick with it.

I've got a clasic wagon with infinities up front and a mid range Sony head unit.
I was thinking of having a bit of a tinker with the Ice in the car as I'm bored and it needs a bit more oomph!
So I figure I've got to get myself an amp to drive the Infinities and a sub but I dont want to lose the practicality of the wagon so questions;

A: Will an amp under the passenger seat interfere with my bluetooth kit in the handbrake console, if so, where else can I stick it? I presume they need to be in free air so they can cool effectively?

B: Should I bin the space saver or is it possible to sink a sub into it?

C: Is there a decent powered (active) sub on the market which would either fit in the spare wheel well or under the passenger seat?

I must admit, my prefferred option would be to stick a amp under the passenger seat, and sink a sub into the spare wheel well with a false floor in the boot, all nicely protected by a rubber boot liner, but would this muffle the sub too much?

If anyone knows any links to websites dealing specifically with wagon boot installs I'd appreciate the links.

In the meantime any ideas would be gratefully received.

Cheers
Dave

Alpine and I think Clarion do under seat active subs, i.e sub with built in amp. Might be worth a look, but would of course depend on how much space you have under your seats.

Cheers

Ive just done my wagon, with the spare removed, and amps installed there.
Ive made a fibreglass enclosure for the side.
Pics to follow on in next day or so.

I`ll pm you if you want to see?

Anyone used them?

Yes I fitted one in a Scooby last month, Very good for the money.
Sounded really good.

If you want to spend more time and cash, then a really good sounding system can be installed.Mine is very stealthy.

I've installed a 12" sub behind the passenger side rear suspension strut - you hardly lose any boot space, and can get about .8 cu ft there...

So sticking with the 'stealth' aspect, would one of these Basslink jobbies fit uner the seat (me-thinks not) and would I still need to amp my front components?

Still considering doing a proper boot floor install, can you get decent shallow subs? I'm thinking free air types would be easiest......

Side sub box would still be visible, plus I carry a dog in the back and she'd probably eat it!

Cheers for your input so far.

There a few ways you can do this.
You could get a stealthbox, which is removeable really easily. I think Autoacoustics have a couple of old stock ones left for about £50.(should be £150).
You would need an amp for the sub, but could get away with using the head unit for the rest of the speakers.
You can easily mount the amp where the spare lives.
Or you mount the sub in a custom made (fibreglass/mdf) moulding where the spare is and mount the amp somewhere else.
This would be more difficult but could solve your problem.
If you need any guidance on doing this, let me know as I have done these types of installs before.

I suppose so....not really recommended
If the amp is not too big..it would go on.

Yep done it, and it worked fine for about 2 years, then I took it out to sell the car.

JBL Active Sub highly rated.

Listened to one today (looking for this sort of thing at the moment) and I simply couldn't believe how much noise it made, nor how controlled it sounded. Currently top of my list.

Cheers

Right,

First step will be to get a decent amp installed under the passenger seat to get the front Infinities sounding better. That way I can get all the cabling done for a sub at the same time.

What sort of specs should I be looking for in a 4 channel amp and will it damage it just running 2 out of 4 channels for a while??

Cheers

Dave,

Go for a decent brand, look at around 4x75w, and look for something that's bridgeable. Running only 2 channels does no harm whatsoever.

Cheers,
nick.

My local car audio emporeum is flogging a 4x75w amp made by Magnat for £99, but it's some sort of Michael Shumacher special edition in Ferrari red! Looks a bit cack (even though it's going under a seat). All the other 4 channel amps are in the region of £200 or too big to fit under a seat.

Any reccomendations?

Phoenix Gold, its worth the extra...
There was some stuff on ebay..

Dont turn the gains up on the amp, or you will drown out the bass.
Just use the amp to increase quality and have no distortion.

If you're saying that he just siliconed a lump of MDF to the tyre, then I hope he ain't giving the sub any pain as there'll be naff all support for the sub's suspension.
