Mounting 6'9 Speakers to MY98 on the rear Shelf...
I want to FIT a pair of Audiobahn AS96Q 6'9's in my car..these are capable of 180watts rms....
So last night i ripped out the sony 6'9's in the car, and noticed that the hole was not the correct shape...however the holes were there to mount because of the existing 6'9's.
After spending 3hours on fitting! when i played them, they sounded awfal, and i am getting a crackling sound, i think the cone is hitting the sorround above...
QUESTION:
Can i cut the hole in the rear shelf to make the 6'9's fit?
Also will be sound dedning the rear metal shelf to stop the vibrations..
Any thoughts welcome
Sam

Hi mate, this is an easy one, get some MDF, cut to attcah your speaker to it and line both sides with dynamat (or something similar). Attach all to back shelf and problem solved. You will not need to matt the whole shelf and no cutting and drilling the car to pieces reqd.

Depends if you want them to be sorta stealthy or shout "I've replaced my stereo, and possibly have more stereo gear in the car".
I'd mount them underneath the shelf for the above reason.
