New Head Unit - up to you what - but something by Alpine. £200+
New front speakers 6.5" components £100+
10-12" Sub £150+
4 Chanel amp (2 for fronts - other 2 bridged to sub) £300+
Fitting by a installer (inc cables, dynamat, box for sub etc £400+
Stuff is ludicrously cheap in the US if you can avoid shipping costs - otherwise www.caraudiodirect.co.uk are about the cheapest in the UK
The pluses are because you easily spend much more than that amount
ie really nice would be (if your loaded);
HU - £400 fronts -£250 2 x Sub £400 (each) + amp for fronts - £500 2 x amps for subs at £500 each - qulatiy stealth install - £1000

Obviously upgrade the front speakers (prob infinities) and I'd like that double din Kenwood touch screen DVD player. Whats the likelihood that I would need two amps? Is it purely a power issue or are there other benefits that having two amps would bring?
Also, whats the max length of cable to and from the amp b4 power/ sound degradation starts kicking in? Is this an issue in a car?
cheers

I know this is going to be 'how long is a piece of string question' But, I two am lucky enough to have a WR1 and am looking into the ICE department. I'd like to run two 10-inch subs in the boot (I think it would make a nice symmetrical boot-build, not to mention balancing out the weight).

cheers everyone, some great ideas and top tips.
Tried to fit the Sony Disc player the other weekend but the finishing plate would not fit. After looking in to the SIDC issue this month covers something in this area, so I've been told.
I'm going for GaryCat's idea, front speaker have got to go, this is my first step forward untill I've had a chance to check out other options when changing the head unit.
May be a head unit and computer .
Thanks again Guys.

Can you explain how the MP3 part of the changer works? Do you upload files from a DAP?
