i've had a quick look at the connections & they seem fine but if it's a bad earth where would i check it? & would the bad earth cause the display to dim when i turn the volume up as it does?

dark nik,

If your headunit is losing the settings, say when you remove the keys from the car, then the permanent and the switched positive wires are round the wrong way. I had the same problem with an old Sony headunit in my old Golf.

mine isn't losing the settings every day, it's doing it about every month

funny thing is when i press the reset button all my station presets come back but the rest of the settings don't!

i just don't know what to do now, i'm a bit reluctant about going to a shop and asking them because i've had bad experiences with ice dealers in the past (that's why i've installed radios myself since, but i didn't do this one!)

you guys are the last hope that i'm clinging onto...please help!

Had the same problems with mine guys. It's usually just a case of swapping round the red & yellow wires. Well doing so has always worked for me!
