The pocket is a Subaru part number. Autoleads also do a pocket which'll fill the hole underneath a single DIN unit...

I bought a single din SECS monitor. a tad more expensive than the pocket but it looks much better and gives you some useful info as well

Got the radio mounted today. What a bitch to do! I cant get a silver fascia adaptor, they are on back order, but are coming in to the uk on 24th. I have stripped the brackets off the standard radio, and refitted the new one. This, then doesn't allow you to put back the trim for the climate unit! I then took off the surround for the new radio, which allow it to protrude through the hole in the dash by about 5 or 6mm. It actually looks better than it sounds- trust me! I think I will make myself some brackets to fit the unit to the existing holes, and now I am considering cancelling the order for the flap and buying the Blaupunkt Din changer. I still fail to see how you can make the supplied cage for the new unit 'fit' the hole in the dash? There is simply nothing there to mount it to. The chap who supplied the radio suggested insulation tape etc, but I would like to know the correct way to do it, keeping the radio 'complete' I realize you mount it behind the fascia, but just cant see what too!
Complications aside, I am very impressed with the new radio, just a pain it's not straightforward to put in. Many thanks to all who have taken the time to reply. Any more suggestion are most welcome....
thanks, Daz

I think you'll find anyone who's put a single DIN unit in (me included) has had to remove the plastic surround from the new unit. There's absolutely no way it'll go in with it in place - but the mounting holes should line up perfectly.

Just a quick tip -if you get the Forester pocket do a bit of a dry run with it - you'll find you've got to mount it slightly further back than the radio otherwise the dashboard facia won't go on properly - it'll bulge where the pocket meets it.

Daz, what are you on about? Any new unit has to have the existing mounting brackets screwed to the side of the headunit without any supplied cage. You just remove them from the old unit and screw them to the new, then replace the trim.

What's a silver facia adaptor too? Do you mean the silver forester pocket as per the thread link by Tony?

All fitted now using existing brackets. At some point in the future I will copy the brackets and make my own cage so the two fitted units sit further back in the dash. As for the fascia adaptor, yes I did mean the forrester pocket, (which is still on back order incidently).

It's not too hard. amd face it the standard radio is worse than the crappy free gifts you get for opening bank accounts

My radio is mounted to the metal frame that the standard radio used.

A note to help you guys with a space under your single DIN CD player:

Subaru 4 disc CD storage box from your dealer to fit 03/04 WRX p/n H625ESA201 & costs £39.95. If you install MP£ CD player, these + the one in the player gives 40+ cd's.Cheers Pete
