Default ICE upgrade?

Hi

I have ordered a WR1 which is due at the end of May. Can anyone tell me what the OEM stereo is like these days? I remember when I bought my my99 Turbo, the stereo was terrible & I upgraded it to an Alpine controller with a changer in the boot & also swapped out the standard speakers, but kept the same grills for a stealth install.

If I need to improve the Sti installation, what's the recommended thing to do? I prefer the Alpine sound - budget about £1200. What do you do with the fact that the OEM system is larger than an Alpine head unit?

Nick,

Although we haven't ordered a WR1 (We ordered an WRX SL Wagon), looking at the WR1 brochure the double din head unit looks the same as the WRX. I think it is made by Clarion and I have to say when we went out in a demo car, the sound was not fantastic. We are looking to replace the head unit and speakers when our car arrives
