Guys,

what is the maximum size and depth of speakers that will fit in the front on an STI7?

a) Without making mdf collars?
b) If i do, how much space is there between speaker and door trim grill?

Any recommendations for fronts speakers?

Cheers

Andy,

I can't say for certain as there's differing views on this. Take the door cards off (5 minute job) and get measuring for the depth

For the door cards, it'll be an educated guess, but you can definitely get 6mm behind there, and should be fine with 12mm. Apparently door cards changed shape between MY02 (7) and 03 (8), and I think you've got more clearance behind them. Yes, it sounds unlikely to me, but that's apparently how it is...

Let us know the findings!

Cheers,
Nick.

I agree with Chiark, based on what my car audio guy tells me. Apparently (though I can't see why) there is less clearance in a MY03...

Anyway, I have 18mm spacers and that allows the magnet of a 6.5" to *just* clear the window when fully down and also allows the card to fit back on. That's in a MY02. Rears are 4" as standard.

(strangely, I found that the speaker holes in my door card hadn't been drilled out at all either, but that's a different story...)

Just fitted a nice set of Sony speakers to my MY03/04 Wagon. Corsa speaker upgrade kit (sold by Halfords) fits under cards with very little need to hack it about (just a small mod to align the top mounting hole). And no need to mess around with mdf. It also angles the speakers upwards a few degrees. Recommended.

I can't tell you what will fit without a spacer but with a 12mm mdf spacer, I've just put in some front speakers with a depth of 64mm in total. The door cards went back on without any hassle.

Hi,

Here's the link - Sony 1724 & 1024 :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3072336152&ssPageName= ADME:B:EOAB:UK:6

Oh, and they're a big improvement on standard fit speakers. Not bad for £31!

Regards,

Geoff
