I've got that head unit. I'm very pleased with it except that the display colour doesn't match the rest of the dash and there is no dimmer.

What year car do you have - do you want rear speakers for the parcel shelf or rear doors?

rear speakers for the parcel shelf.

there were some addzest ones there before - really big ones - but they broke.

i quite like the sound of the infinity ones that halfrauds have on offer for £50 (half price).. they're 6x9s i think but i dunno if they'll fit (i dont wannna start cutting the interior up!)

6x9s will fit but you have to remove the existing ones together with the metal plate theyre attached to, and then screw the new 6x9s to the underside of the parcel shelf.

by removing the rear speakers on a classic rear shelf, do 6*9's line up their hole with those of that metal adaptor thingy then?

can i just plonk em underneath and screw upwards??

Get sum phoenix gold 6.0" or 6.5" components or infinities same size (£100)
bit more money but well worth it and fit pretty much exactly into whole, just a tad too big so modyfying the whole will not be difficult!
Also personally think they sound far better and clearer than 6x9's and have a higher rms which is the constant rated speaker volume.

Does anyone know if this headunit works with the CDX-727 10 disc changer?

Cheers

im considering 6*9 cos i dont really want to use a sub but need some low end umph. whatever goes in the back will be run of the HU (Pioneer '77MP)at a LPF of 125.

I dont want to make any new hole in the shelf, so would a pair of 6.5" Midbass speakers be better suited do you reckon? there doesnt seem to be much out there for reasonable money...

If you get the right 6.5" woofers, you will make better bass than any 6x9 - by that I mean CLEAN bass.

a 6x9 has more surface area so it makes a lot of bass, but because of the oval cone it muddies the sound a bit. If you compare any 6.5" component setup with a Hz rating as low as 35Hz, they will probably outperform the 6x9. IMHO, anyway.

The good thing about getting the components for the rear shelf is that you can set yourself up quite nicely with the tweeters to create a wide soundstage...you can't do that with a 6x9.

I have just fitted 6 x 9 Infinity reference in the rear parcel shelf and I have to say they are very powerful and have some very good clean bass at very loud levels. I was considering a sub but these are adequate for what I want. Try and get a listen to some. By the way mine are powered from an Audison Amp which obviosly helps.
