I am trying to fit a pioneer stereo into my MY99 STI 5 and was wondering if I can use screw to hold the stereo into the metal bracket on the car, as I can't see how the "tabs" will hold it in??

Thanks in advance

I'm guessing you've got a double DIN in the STI5 at the moment? If so, you need to remove the double DIN, take the plates off the side of the unit, and screw the mounting plates onto the side of the new unit.

Take care with what screws you use: the unit will tell you the max length and thread to use. Don't just ignore that

the thread is less crucial than you realise, plus the holes in the unit are in standard locations.

There is easily enough options on the cage on the car to find holes which line up.

You may find you have to remove the stereo surround if it has one.

Yeah, you can fit an M6 screw in an M3 hole . All it takes is a great deal of brute force and ignorance

It normally says on the head unit stamped into the side, along with a maximum length - M4 or M3 would be my guess...

Thanks the HU has a 6mm max stamp on it but no indication of thread size, do you think my local i.c.e shop would stock such a thing?

Thanks Chris
