Does anyone know where I can get a fitted base enclosure ? I want one which moulds itself into the recess on one side of the boot.

Most Car Audio shops will gladly make but it will be expensive where ever you go make sure you see pics of previous work the good ones will have loads as need a log of work for I.A.S.C.A competion guidelines, or alternatively try it yourself there are several books around maybe even use spare wheel well (lots of threads on this just do a search).

1000W? Big grin. I'd like to see what happened if you did put 1000W through it. Preferably from behind reinforced glass.

If you can, you may want to consider different front speakers such as 6" from a specialist car audio manufacturer. Saying that, I got good results from Kenwood 5"s in my wife's saxo.

 

If you've got the inclination, try it yourself.

You're in Manchester and there's lots of good reputable dealers round there. Auto Audio used to be excellent, but I haven't been in the sound off scene recently so don't know if they're still good.

Adam M recommends Idle Car Radio in Bradford very highly. I'll probably check 'em out when I get bored with my current set-up, which may be quite a while away

Another option would be for some enterprising individual to create a mould for the side and start selling the back-part of the box. Hmmmm... Fibreglass resin + enclosed garage = woooooooooo. (Not nice)

 

Are you suggesting Idle car audio? never heard of them, but if you mean Audio images then yes, I would recommend them.

I have to say that moulded boxes (normally made from fibre glass) need to be made extremely thick to sound good and most dealers just dont put in the hours so a thin wall of fibreglass results which sounds a bit hollow and never produces the punch.

If you want such a box, give lee christie an email, he knows a company (not sure if they still make them) that tailor akes teh box you describe in bulk.

I personally would be more inclined to go with a standard wedge box.

You can have the wedge angled to match the rear seat and save some space that way.

 

I found somewhere in Manchester which does them for £150. I think I will buy a cheap standard enclosure, as I need to be able to take it out when carrying things anyway.

Any comments on my proposed set-up:

Sony minidisc front end.

Kenwood 5"components in front doors.

Alpine 1000w 10" sub (£120) in a fully enclosed box in the back (of my 5 door).

Alpine F407 4x60rms amp in 3 channel mode - 2 for front, and one for the sub.

 

I have decided on an 8" JL sub, and I am going to make my own little box - may not shake the car to bits, but it should add a nice bit of rumble.

Not worth putting a large diameter woofer into a scooby espacaily if you are going to get a performance exhaust of some sort.

The road noise and low frequencies produced by the car drown out when you are driving.

Unless you like to feel your music when you are at standstill dont bother with large woofers.

I personaly wouldnt go for a 8' a bit to small get a 10 and a well made box.
