Cool

i am looking to change the standard speakers on my sep 03 wrx. i understand that the front door panels have tweeters fitted as standard.I assume that they are the same low quality as the rest of the speakers and was intending to change them at the same time.

Can anyone recommend a matched speaker and tweeter set for the front that will definetly fit.

I understand that i will have to fit a smaller dia. set into the rear.

You'll get a lot of differing views depending on quality/cost.

IMHO I fitted Infinity 6000cs (53mm depth with a 12mm MDF collar)on my MY02 and 4002i in the rear. The 6000cs are about £85, so good value, although some find them a bit bright.

Lots of highs. Have a listen of a small Japanese mini-hifi for the home and compare it to a British separates setup - that's bright against neutral (admittedly generalising massively!)

Have a gander at the FAQ - it may be useful - http://www.chiark.com/scooby/icetoc.asp

I'm in the same dilema, which speakers and head unit to fit.

It would appear that all speakers will require spacers. There is a US site that sell spacer kits, they also list which speaker fits with which spacer. The site is www.iaperformance.com

The infinity 6000's seem popular but are on the bright side.

I've just seen an ad for JBL GTO605c 6.5" component speakers for £50 plus delivery. Any one used JBL ???

JBL used to be a very popular choice... Are those a compoonent set or coax?

The crossover on the 6000cs has an extra tweeter output that is -3dB. Does that help to reduce the brightness?

Gary

I used the -3dB on the X-over and it did improve things.

To be honest I'm not a total audiophile, but I do like a quality sound. I found the Infinity's fine for my needs: Good bass, without resorting to amp/subwoofer setup and a very clear soundstage.

My definition of bright is that the treble "feels" louder or closer to you!

I agree - how anyone can use the Infinitys without using -3dB on the tweeters is beyond me!

-3dB inputs eh? Hmmm it looks like the door cards are coming off again then this weekend. I'll take some pics of my installation too.
