Pioneer DEH P77MP query...

the 77mP has an ASL function which should adjust music levels to compensate for ambient noises - not sure if ambient is right choice of word, but you know what i mena....
my question is this. how does it detect this? surely it needs to be wired to a speed pulse sensor or summin? if so, where is it and what does it look like?

If it's anything like my current pioneer (and the previous), it's got a built in microphone which it uses to measure the background noise and adjust the radio output accordingly...
Edited to say:
Attaching to the speed pulse wire wouldn't do much good, because the ambient background noise is really more dependant in the road surface than the loud peddle. Compare driving over smooth tarmac surface to concrete for example...

I have this HU and the volume does automatically increase as background noises increase and mine is not connected to the speed pulse.
Just set the ASL to the desired level.

Not sure if its the same on this as my old P88, but that had a little metal box coming out the back of the unit which had a microphone in and adjusted the volume according to the noise level it picked up.

Thinkin of this head unit or the Pioneer DEH-7500 but curious as to how many main folders they can read, ie if I make a disc with 10 CD's in seperate folders will this work?
Let us know thanks

Got same HU. Screen is small but hey, who needs loads of flashing lights when you're meant to be looking at the road. Managed to copy approx 15 CD's on to one disc in WMA format at 64kb and the sound quality is good and all the folders worked fine.
Anyone got any comments on WMA verses MP3 at 128bit; which gives the best sound performance, can you tell the difference?

i have never used WMA and i always comprees to 160... to be fair though, i cant really detect any loss of sound btwn 128 and 160 or 192! but then the stock speakers dont exactly grabb the frquencies the way it should now do they?

I have this headunit - I can get about 12-15 cd's worth at 128kbps. I can tell little difference between WMA and MP3 at this rate, but I generally use MP3 as I don't like the way Windows Media Player tags WMA files cos they don't play in the correct order in the folder.
I don't use the noise adjust because it is irritating but I also get slightly annoyed that I have to press a button to scroll the whole track name across the screen and that it only scrolls once....
