Looking at a CVA 1004R flip out screen and latest NV 77PS navi system.
Anyone got any comments / opinions on this gear?

Cheers

all good stuff - the new alpine 1004 is quite cheap for a flip out screen - about 600 in some on line stores - but you'll need a changer with it. I think the alpine sat nav, especially the dvd, is very good. I'd stop looking and buy it (but make sure you pay the lowest possible price!!)

I thought it looked good, but also considering a pioneer navi system which has the 6500 flip out screen + dvd player built in for around £2300 which I thought was very cheap.
Which would you recommend, alpine or pioneer?

both good, i just prefer the build quality and aesthetics of apline over pioneer. both top quality navi - just find two units to play around with and see which you prefer.

I got the Pioneer screen and dont think there is a better value for money screen - dVD / MP3 / CD/ Tuner etc all in the one unit no extras required Not gone for the Sat Nav as yet but is a serious consideration for the future - u can get the Pioneer cheaper than £2,300 i was offered at £2,050 as a package

Went for the Alpine.
Wicked piece of kit, and build quality second to none
