Bluetooth ICE

Not yet, no, but I reckon it's only a question of time. Kenwood has launched a GSM "module" as an add-on for this year's range... With that interface already there it would be trivial for them to make it a bluetooth module.

"Possibly".
It depends upon the exact controller chip in the phone as some IR controllers aren't set up for the exact signalling needed for remote control.
In Java you will be struggling as you won't be able to access the hardware at a low enough level to send the right pulses etc.

If you're worry is about drilling holes, etc - there are a couple of Bluetooth phone kits available. The Parrot CK3000 (£117) is a good one. Plugs in between wiring loom and ead unit (using ISO connectors) - run microphone cable up the A-pillar and a little remote control onto dashboard. Works a treat - mutes head unit (if head unit has the facility) and sound comes through car speakers.

Overheard somebody saying that Sony have bought out a single cd / radio player with Bluetooth capability built in. I have checked out the Sony Web site but can't find anything.
Has anybody heard about this or any other mfg who are doing something similar. Have heard about the Parrot unit, but have had mixed review, so I was hoping this would be a better solution.

Just been reading about the Parrot kit - it looks brilliant! Stereo muting, sound through the speakers and voice recognition to dial the phone numbers! That's about as handsfree as you can get! Definitely want one for my SPV.
By the way, if one of the "mixed reviews" you'd heard was that you might get poor line quality or interference, it seems that they are designed to have the microphone mounted on the headlining by the rear-view mirror as mounting them on the A-pillar might not be the best place.
