What exactly are you trying to do? Do you want the kids to have headphones on whilst watching DVDs? and you want to listen to cd, is this correct, has the DVD player got an headphone socket? if so plug the headphone into that. You could use somekind of speaker switch ,to switch between DVD and CD source, not sure if this would work though but it could be worth a try.

You've got two options:
1. Use a few relays to switch the speaker outputs over
2. If one of the head units has an aux in, or an aux in adaptor option, use that
I'd go for option 2 if at all possible.
