A cap (or capacitor) is just a passive piece of electronics.

It's intended to provide a large, immediately available reserve of power if the bass hits, or at least that's the theory.

A cap permanently connected will draw absolutely bugger all current to speak of and would take months/years to flatten a battery. Your alarm will do it much faster
Cheers,
Nick.

Probably not something that will worry you but if for any reason your car is having trouble starting, the cap will assist the battery in turning over the starter.

Two advantages in one!!!
Cool!!!

...but not if you're using a split charge or diode. Besides, 1 farad of capacitance at 12V contains 144 joules of energy... That's enough to run a 100W motor for slighly over a second.

It won't help starting

OK I guess it wouldn't provide enough energy to aid in the starting.

If you must be picky, I think you'll find that its about 72 joules anyway.
