'Classic' CD Player display is fading

I have a Sony CDX-5070 unit fitted in my car - It's one of the old green numbers only type disply. No RDS or anything fancy... 
The display is fading/ failing, some bits seem to be illuminating when they shouldn't be etc. Is there any cure for this?

had this happen on a sony flip down front.. It was something to do with the ribbon cable been worn out.. Told it was a waste of money.fixing.
If its a face off you could try to find another matching face??
