I tried to fit a pair of focal speakers into the front of my wrx (in the doors to replace the factory ones)

BUT the glass of the windows catches the magnet of the speaker on the way down at about 3/4 of the way down.

If I make a plate to mount the speaker on, i dont think the panel will fit back on because of the speaker sticking out.

Has anyone else had this problem and how can it be resolved if at all?

Cheers.

a 12mm MDF plate might clear the glass, and should allow the trim back on...

had my focals fitted profes with 9mm mdf spacer, but checked it myself and door card had been resting on speaker rubber only on the top part of speaker,so made some more spacers angled so top part only a couple of mill deep, this was just enough to keep speaker of glass and away from door card this was trial and error method just kept on going until speaker was just clear of glass.sound much better!

From what D Beacham says, you need it 9mm deep but LESS at the top. The door card is indented at the top of the area marked out for the speaker, making it rub on the speaker, from what he has written.

Saying that, I have 18mm spacers and to my knowledge the cards don't touch the speakers, (though not sure how I would check, TBH)

forgot to say the spacer is mounted on orig speaker mount, and this is on a my00 but same prob, just angle mount back until just clear of window and it should not touch door card,i have done this as i could see the imprint of door card speaker grill on the rubber of my focals not good!

Hi guys,

Ive tried to fit the focals using a 9mm collar, when tilting either the top or the bottom of the speaker, i get a massive gap on the opposite side, making it almost impossible to replace the door panel.

I think il need thicker MDF, any one got any extra advise?

I tried 3 audio installers to get a set of Focal Access 165's installed into my my03, they all failed, One did try angling the speaker to see if it would fit but wanted a crazy amount of money to actually do it. And he couldnt gurantee it would work in the end.

good luck as they are cracking speakers for the money.
