I saw someone who pointed their subs directly at the back of the back seat - does that work ?

If so, do people in the back get beaten up by them ?

Question

So does it matter which way they face ?

I've also seen a few pointing straight down.......

Does not matter too much, just get better bass if they are facing into the cabin.
For shows & such have them pointing out the boot ( for when the boot is open )
Enjoy.

ps. Forget using the rear veiw mirror with them on, it bounces about like mad !!
