03 WRX sound quality
#1
I know it's old news that the stereo in the 03 isn't very good (although I think we deserved better for the money) but does anyone know whether the poor quality is associated with the player, the speakers, or both?
In other words, can you improve things by simply upgrading the speakers and keeping the player? Or could you keep the speakers and just slot a better player in?
I'm not interested in putting big money ICE in my car, I'd just like it to be as good as the standard equipment in my old 206GTI.

The head unit is pant's... I changed to an MP3 head unit, kept the speakers and put a sub in the boot. whole lot cost me £200 and it sounds very good.
I don't see the point of spending lots on a system, as the compression on todays music is desined to sound good on anything half decent...

Speakers are lousy - tiny magnets and plastic(!!???) frames - no bass and a rough treble! Rears are only single cone with no tweeter - not even "dual cone"!!
So bass can be gotten round by adding a sub - but the treble will still be rough ......
I am changing the head unit as well - nice Sony Mini Disc!
