Focal Polyglass slimline - bit disappointed, any suggestions?
#1
Hi everyone,
I've recently bought some focal pollyglass V2 slimlines - I had to use a spacer to get them in, but apart from that they have gone in ok. I have sound deadened the doors, amped them through my magnet amp supposedly chucking out 260w max. With 4AWG power cable and 12AWG speaker cable. Running off 9813 Alpine headunit and to be perfectly honest I'm a bit disappointed there is nowhere near the bass there that I was expecting, I cant really tell the difference between them and a set of 13cm £120 caliber speakers I had in my saxo.
The speakers have surprisingly small magnets for the money and the 'polyglass' material looks a bit like cardboard from the back!
Can any of you suggest where I'm going wrong? Will they improve dramatically with time as they run in? Was I maybe just expecting too much?!
any suggestions/ set up tips would be greatly appriciated - just feeling a bit cheated having spent 2 days faffing on for not much result!
cheers
Chris

I have focals all round, and 6-8 weeks on they sound much better. I have an alpine head unit and everything is set to flat and all the adjusting is done at the crossover and at the amp end.
TBH, I would allways use a sub for base and the fronts for mid and trebble and set the whole system up so everything sound integrated.

Cheers,
Do you run the focals full range or through a highpass filter?
What sub are you running?
I've got a 12" kenwood in but its not really up[ to the job - I'm thinking about a bit more credit card bashing in the form of a mono block amp and a meaty sub, people seem to regard JL audio very highly but I really like the look of the JBL GTi subs.
thanks

Is it properly wired in i.e. the plus' and minus' the right way round - I got the Polyglass V2's all round front components and rear co-axials and they are simply superb.
I didnt bother with the Slimline - got the full size 6.5" speakers into my MY99 front doors

yeah the polarity is correct.
I didn't really want to go for the slimlines (seems a bit like the lot fat version! ) but I was advised (both by the guy at turner's and people on scoobynet that I'd struggle with the normal V2s... but I gather that it can be done (as in your case)!

L555chris,
Not sure how they are running, I'm not theat 'into' it or clued up as long as it sounds correct.
I'm running 165K2 Poly-k's in the front and the slimline ones in the rear quarter (these are in my Integra). I'm running a 12" Diamond Audio Mac Daddy sub in a very small sealed enclosure as I don't like my bass to be boomy, I wanted it to have more punch than rummble.
The fronts and rear quater speakers are running off a Genesis 5 channel amp and the sub is running off a fairly large DLS mono-block, oh! I've also got a phoenix gold line drive connect in there somewhere.

the slimlines look a bit to thin for me, the polyglass ones i have in the front are the 136 real deep cone ones, with a heffty magnet behind - now they produce a good kick with the sub blended in from the boot.
