Pioneer AVIC900HVT Install
#1
On MCS Direct the Pioneer AVIC900HVT is £1802
been quoted £2200 - £2300 to supply and fit from Impulse in Watford(thanks to atche)
Does that sound like an alright deal as after the speaker problem there is no way I am attempting it myself....???

As inviting as cutting of that region of my body is i'll pass.
Of the three ICE installer I called they were the cheapest by far as the others said it would cost £2800 and they all said it was a days work not just 2 hours.
Why can't things be simple.....???

2 Hours to fit a screen Navigation? Speed pulse, correct location of GPS antenna etc, If anyone said they could do it for 2 hours I wouldnt have it done, as someone has cut corners somewhere. I think to do it properly, you are looking between 4-8 hours, depending on vehicle. Remember, the dealer cant keep making small adjustments after fitting the kit and the customer going, and he also has to test its proper operation.
MCS direct is not a good place to set a realistic baseline for price - There are reasons for this (which I cant go into here).
Its up to each individual where you go and buy things, but in my experience buying from the cheapest place doesnt always mean the best bargain.

Speed pulse = connector on ECU. For someone that knows the car, that's a ten minute job. GPS location = under clock on MY03 dash. It works well in that position.
I honestly reckon you could install a quality navigation setup in 2-4 hours. I should caveat this by saying I've never done this though - armchair expert and all that
I know what you mean about the business model employed by some on-line retailers, but it's working and giving cheaper prices to us.
Ask for a fitting only quote. Some places have a pragmatic view with respect of competing with on-line dealers (ie, it ain't worth their while, so don't try) and will install items sourced from other places providing it's proper stuff.

Asked about fitting only and Impulse said £300 and Motor Media Said £35 and hour plus vat.....
might just go with Impulse to supply and fit

There are reasons that some on-line places are cheaper - NOT saying this is one of them but be careful what you buy as some are B grade stock , some a re-furbed and some are grey imports.
For example Pioneer UK will not uphold a warranty on a non UK units warranty. Also I had sme concerns about an on line retailer and rung Pioneer Customer Relations and the guy was very helpful in. Turned out that the company that was selling a unit for £500 less than suggested selling price "had an account with Pioneer, but no longer". Deduce what you want from that. but BE CAREFUL it may not be all it seems!!!!
Again this is not directed at MCS, this is just a general finding!

Also to re-address the balance on why on line is cheaper .........
Most on line stores have a greater audience than your local stereo shop therefore they will sell some items at minimal profit. There is one on line store only making 3% on a DVD screen!!!! Whereas your local ICE shop will sell at far greater profit to kind of compensate for this. So local ice shop makes £200 on a unit and online makes £20 a unit.... from a business sense the local shop is doing better business cos they only have to sell one to make the same level of profit, and only have 1 unit to guarantee rather than 10!!!.
Also local ICE shops are the places you go to when it goes wrong with an on line shop!
