I am fitting 5.25 Phoenix Gold Octane R's at the minute in mine (at least thats what I think they are )
I have had to enlarge the hole in the door slightly but no major drama...I will take some pictures and post if you like. They have angled tweeters but I have no idea what they sound like yet !
Have spent a few hours Dynamatt'ing the front and back doors, makes a big difference if you tap the outer skin. Without the Dynamat it's tinny with the Dynamat it's got a nice dull thud

I did put some 5.25" pioneer speakers in the back doors of my 02WRX. Got bored with lack of bass, muffled sound due to location etc, and so installed so Infinity 605cs in the back shelf, combined with a Phoenix Gold amp for the front doors and rear shelf. BIG improvement. They do bass, unmuffled midrange etc. Left the Pioneers in running off the headunit as it seems a shame to waste them.
Rear shelf is more hassle to install to, and you need to be a bit more handy, but IMHO well worth the effort.
