Rear Speakers for 2003
#1
Just finished putting new rear speakers into the back doors. They are Pioneer TS-E1375 13cm (5 1/4"). The original 4" speakers are very shallow, but are fitted on a massive plastic rim. My new speakers are about 53mm deep and I used 6mm MDf to make the ring.
I had to use an electric sander to remove some of the inner speaker grill hexagonal webing as the speakers touched and gave off a treadful boom.
To be totally honest they are a bit cleaner sounding, but for the hassle I don't really think they have improved things. I have a Sony header unit with 40w max output. I put dynomat on the inner skin. I've put 6.5" kenwoods in the front powered by a small 85w amp.
I think It would have been better to spend the cash on a small sub and to fit it to the old passenger rear speaker slot
I'll be interested to hear other peoples opinions on the matter.
I broke one of the D rings around the door catch when taken the panel off, so be careful
