Ali Scott,
I'm fortunate to have two cars. Mine is a UK300 and the wife's is Nissan Micra. Nissan do two fantastic speaker pods for the rear shelf and we put 5" Sony Xplods in there, running from a Sony MD unit. The sound is really good, clear with good bass. Not earth-shattering but enough clean with no overhang - notes stop and start as they should. Did you have a bad batch of speakers?
I know what hi fi should sound like - my home system is Linn-based and cost £5000 and the Sony's sound great in their environment. The fronts will be replaced at the next service (we have a good dealer who will replace the 'loose' Nissan crap originals with Sony's with no labour charge - they have to take the inner door off anyway !!)

Went for the cheap and easy option in the end and bought Pioneer TS-G1746, only £44 and sound alot better than the standard jobs..
Gonna concentrate now on getting my amps and Sub-box in the back, might upgrade to some components in the front later on in the year..
Cheers to everyone for your advise!!

Hi Ali
I had the same question as your original post. Although I am still using the original head unit.
Were the Pioneer speakers that you chose in the end direct replacements? No modifying of anything?
Thanks for any help.
Cheers
Brett
