Seems that in Japan they have a much better selection, especially stuff like this http://panasonic.jp/car/av/products/2DIN/CQ-VX7700D.html

What are the problems with importing one over. Does the radio work, can i pick up 5 live etc etc?

Radio? No. You can buy a band expander to shift the radio frequency up to a point that you can pick up something useful, but you may not get 5 live as I'm unsure as to whether they have MW support...

Also, the price is now much less than the one listed on the Panasonic site. I got mine from Tokyo Super Autobacs brandnew for 49800 yen.

If you can plug a sat nav into it then that would be a fantastic unit. Have you seen any others?

You can plug any sat nav into it, but you need to use the remote controle to operate it. The buttons on the unit will not operate the sat nav. They said the Alpine dvd one works well as it predominantly uses the remote.
