Looking at getting Sat Nav installed in my 03 Sti, rather than getting dealer fit looked at both Alpine and Pioneer systems with DVD disk system (so all of Europe on 1 disk). Any one seen or have one of these systems in their car. Any pointers appreciated.

I've got the alpine sat nav systen, and i use it with a separate necvox screen/ I've looked at the pioneer stuff, but chose alpine because I simply prefer the whole range they do, sq and functionality point of view - and genarally better build as well.

Cheers for info, I'm leaning towards Alpine but interested to see why people didn't rate the Pioneer

I have the pioneer system but have not installed it yet.

a friend has and the dealer who fitted it is a staunch alpine fan.

He said quite simply the pioneer was flat better. Much faster route recalculation and more intuitive to use as well as having more features.

It also has a far more advanced processor and is complete with flash rom so that future software discs will update the operating system with new features. The alpine does not have anything like this.

The alpine may well be prettier to look at, but in terms of navigating performance apparently the pioner is top of the list.

This came from an alpine dealer!

Adam, cheers for the info, just checked and I can get the Pioneer for about £700 cheaper than Alpine. Just got to find a local dealer to fit it.

I agree with the pioneer being better than the alpne in terms of navi and display gimmicks, i just don't like the pioneer systems as much due to build and that tacky silver plastic they use. The route planning does take longer than other systems i've tried, although the display is very clear using exact road layouts rather than roundabout sybols showing third exit etc.

I have the Kenwood one ! (seperate screen & navi unit)
I liked it more cos the Screen tucks away & from the outside it just looks like a normal mask !

Gary, best price for both Pioneer and Alpine from http://www.caraudiosecurity.com/. Pioneer came out at £1749 and Alpine at £2250 (inc 6 disc).

I am having the Alpine single DIN sat nav ( NVA-N033R) fitted tomorrow, this is now available as an option from Subaru dealers. I will post some pictures and first impressions in a few days.

I have the VDO Dayton system 5000 in my MY02 WRX. The graphics and mapping are superb. I am considering adding the TMC (Instantaneous traffic info) module which they do.

The separate screen is presently bolted to the airvents in the middle of the car and I would really appreciate any feedback from anyone who has managed to site it in a better place. I did lift the centre clock top panel up and there seems to be a huge recess at the back. Has anyone put it or anything else there yet?
