Ok i need some help,

I have a new STi8 arriving on the 1st of march and i am planning to replace the OEM ICE,

Currently the head unit is double din and apparently i can easily change this for a single DIN, The dash surround is sort of silver.

Please can you guys suggest a good install,

I am looking for MP3 compatability, poss doing away with the need for a disc changer???, and replacing it with a mass storage set-up,

Also speaker replacments and poss a small amp to drive them, not sure where the amp will live mind you,

I want the install to be clean and invisible, no cutting etc...

oh and budget approx £1500.

Thanks for any advice in advance,

Phil G

Hi Phil,

I'm in exactly the same boat as you.

I'm going to replace mine with a Dension DMP3 player. They make several versions, but are just about to launch an in-dash model. This is a 20Gb hard disk unit that is a single DIN size. It stores somewhere in the region of 300 CD's and has an integrated tuner.

They also do larger capacity hard disks, which are stored in a remote unit and then connected either to your original CD player / controller or to their in dash controller.

I'm going to be connected it to a 4-ch amp and up-grading the speakers.

Cost of all this is going to be a lot less than the £1500 you have.
The 20Gb HDD / tuner model is going to retail at less than £400. So with an amp and speakers I'm reckoning on still being able to have a slap up meal at Mrs Miggins for £800.

Check out these addresses:
www.dension.com - their main website with details of all products
www.In-CarMP3.com - their UK site (doesn't include all products yet)

The only remaining question is what to do with the other single DIN gap. Subaru can supply us with a double to single DIN adapter, which blanks off the space, or it could be filled with one of these:

www.psi3.co.uk (with the money saved)

Hope this all helps.

Cheers

Simon
