Question

Having taken my MY98's headunit out to have a look at the socket for CD changer lead, I cant get it back in again .

First problem is the small black plug to the headunit (power..?). The cable had very little slack so it disconnected while I was getting it out, now it won't go back in to the socket. How do you get the catch to fit? It looks like it all has to come to bits just to make it go in! Can I just cut off the catch or is that just the bodging lazy answer..?

Second problem is the headunit itself wont fit back in, presumably because connecters etc are getting in the way of it sliding back in. How do I easily get access to the back of the HU so I can guide the connectors out of the way while I slide the head back in?

Many thanks in advance.

Have a look at the connectors - one block is the speakers (8 pins IIRC) and the other is the power. You could be trying to put the wrong connector in the wrong socket.....

Thanks Dan.
You were right, having applied my brain , I realised the black connector goes onto the head case itself, it was just the plug looking like it was for the lineout that was confusing me . I assume that's the earth then.

Also, having got a decent light source in the car I could see what was obstructing getting the headunit back in, so that's sorted.

But, the headunit still doesnt work! Tapes play fine, but it doesnt play the radio on any band. Seems that the aerial isn't connected. It tries to search for the stations (like it does when you go out of a signal so it tries to find same station on another freq.) but doesn't find any. Everything looks to be plugged in fine now, but evidently something is wrong! Any ideas anyone? Which colour wire is the aerial?

Cheers,

Ben

It's a pin that plugs in on the right hand side of the stereo - opposite side to the power/audio ISO connectors (i think)....

You really have to push it in.

That's what the problem sounds like.....

Let me know how you get on

Cheers,

Dan
