charging power capacitors

have purchased a rockford fosgate 1 farad power cap but it says to attatch the charging card and connect red and black wire to 12v power and ground...can i use a battery charger for the car to do this..thks

I've found the best/safest way to charge a capacitor is to use a light bulb!
If you connect the capacitor earth to 0v, one side of a brake light to +12v and the other side to the capacitor +'ve, then the capacitor charges up over about 2-3 minutes. You can tell when it's charged because the bulb goes out.
Similarly, you can use this method to discharge the cap (for storage) by connecting the bulb across the two terminals.
Incidentally, when storing a capacitor of that sort of size, you're best off leaving a resistor (or bulb) connected between the +'ve and -'ve, to ensure no charge builds up over time

It makes me laugh this..

If it has a Volt Meter, charge to around 12V and then install.
