I'm intending to amp up my front 605cs's and a 12" sub in the boot - got to finish wiring the car first though - the sub enclosure is almost complete now.

Anyone care to comment on the suitability of a proplus v500.4 ? it's 75RMS per channel at 4ohms or 150 watts RMS at 2ohms bridged - and it costs £140. I'm interested in sound quality over maximum power.

I'm assuming that it'll be OK to bridge two channels for the sub and use the other two normally ?

I was going to opt for a JLAudio 12W0 sub - but it's spec says it's only 4,8 or 12 ohms - is this important, bearing in mind I'm expecting to power it with 150watts/2ohm. ?

Cheers

Chris

You're talking about the low end stuff here, so if SQ is your thing over SPL, then I'd look elsewhere. There are bargains to be had out there - got a Phoenix Gold QX4150 secondhand in mint condition for £120 - and it retailed at £320. All depends on budget, of course...

I would like a more respected brand but it comes down to cost - been watching for-sale on here, and occasionally ebay - where did you find your amp?

If I buy 2nd hand I'm bothered no matter what the brand if it's been thrashed then I won't know till I turn it on!

I also read the recent ProPlus stuff is putting some respected brands to shame - just not sure if it's due to features or sound quality.

Cheers

Pro-plus, IMO, is amazing value for money. Their components do shame more expensive stuff, and their amps have always been pretty bullet proof. SQ-wise, I haven't heard any of their amps in around 3 years, but compared to other of the entry-level brands they are IMO very very very good.

I think you'll be fine with a Pro Plus amp. Firstly, they are good, not just in terms of value but SQ is up there with some of the more expensive stuff. Secondly, whilst the Infinity speakers are good, they're not that good that you need anything too sophisticated to do them justice. If you were spending £300+ on the components that might be a different story. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the replies, glad to hear good things about the amp.

As for the Sub. Would I get away with a running a 4 ohm Sub off a 2 ohm bridged amp ? or do I need to get a 2 ohm sub ? If so I can't justify a more expensive JL one - do brands like Kenwood/Pioneer provide similar quality - they're half the price.

Cheers
