Question

The standard CD changer in my car is under the passenger seat, screwed to the floor. But the dealer has only moved the seat forwards to allow access for drill/screwdriver and then screwed to the floor. This only leaves room for very small feet in the rear footwell and so the changer gets kicked all the time.

Option 1: Remove pax seat and move changer forward freeing more (but possibly not enough?) space in the rear footwell.

Option 2: Mount in boot. Only flat surfaces seem to be seat backs (flimsy) or parts of floor (carpet would be pinned down).

Both options would cost about the same for re-location, anyone used either of these options (or another) and could recommend one over the other?

Wink

I have mounted my CD changer under the rear parcel shelf in the boot. Up out of the way from luggage etc.. but easy to change disks. Only took about an hour fit.

Ive mounted a 10 disc changer under the passenger seat (not onto the floor). This leaves plenty of foot room & easy access to the changer.

BL: I like the sound of that. Mine is only a 6 disc so should be even more compact. I guess that you had to take out the seat to access the fixings? leaving just the cable to attach when in situ. Any tips?

Yes, I'd be interested to see how you attached it to the seat too Pictures would be great, if you can.

Nick.

My 10 disc Kenwood changer is also mounted to the underside of the passenger seat (MY00, but can't imagine there's much difference) - done by the dealer before delivery. I've since had the seat out to install some more ICE and it only takes 5 minutes to get the seat out (4 bolts). The changer is fixed with self tappers.

Hope this helps

Dave

i have a 6 disc MD changer installed in my glovebox, (MY97). not sure if its much smaller than a CD changer, but with a bit of clever cutting and some patience, it works. i got a spare glove box, form the local breaker for £20 for when i sell the car,
