Question

I have an MY98 with the standard stereo, I have recently noticed that if i open the drivers window then close it the speaker on that side stops working. I have to switch the stereo on and off a couple of times to get it working. Does anyone have any views on what the likely cause is?.

Sounds like the window itself or the mechanism controling it is hitting the wires. It either chaffed a hole in a wire or losened a wire connection in the factory plug...I'll bet that if you smack the door good and hard when it's not working,it will work.
If so,a re-wire is in order...
