Question

OK, instead of ordering the Alpine MRV-F340 4-channel amp from MCS Direct, I stupidly clicked on the MRV-T420 2-channel one.

The're both the same price and right next to each other on the web page, so I was obviously not paying attention when I ordered it.

So, should I send it back and waste £30 on postage or just keep it.

I only planned to run the fronts of the amp anyway and I don't want a sub (yet). So is it worth just keeping it and getting another amp later if I decide to run rears/sub ???

What would I loose out on (if anything)?

Stefan

I chose part of my degree by ticking the wrong box - Philosophy and Psychology were right next to each other, ended up on psychology - learned nothing and cost 3 years ultimately, because I chose psychology there were not enough students to run a Philosophy course that year - by the time I realised my mishtake it was too late....

From a psycologists point of view it probably means something so you should stick with the choice you made, however Philosophically speaking - you made the wrong choice and so should change as soon as possible as a matter of principle

Hope this helps....

Cheers

Socrates.

Theres not really much you can do as far as the thirty quid it'll cost to send back the amp, I'm sure they'll change it for you as it was an ordering error.

On the plus side, as far as running two two channel amps is concerned, unless you get a high end amp, you'll probably find the setup will be more controlable than just having one amp. That said, I don't realy know the alpine amp range that well so the four channel could be very versatile as far as xovers etc go. I also felt my 4 channel was a bit unbalanced running just two channels, untill i hooked up the sub & tried it with the sub very low.

If you have a look at somne of the posts on this section, you'll notice many audio shops will price match mcs - obviously the benefit is you see what you're paying for and can check its the right one, and returning it is easier than mail order.

So, other than a Sub is it really worth amp'ing two rear speakers?

Dont worry about the rear speakers... Fire these up with the head unit.

Luke, is it worth replacing the rears at all? and if so, would you just run them off the headunit anyway?

That way I can stick with my 2-channel amp and get another one, when I decide to add a sub.

That sound like a good plan?

I would advise sending it back as if you are no doubt going to expand your system and add a sub then you gonna need those extra channels. Pay postage of £30-£40 now and get a 4 channel amp or wait a while sell your current amp(you will lose more than £40)or buy an additional amp(again more than £40)??????

Cheers
Daz.

I am big fan of four channel amps for value, less wiring, flexibility with upgrades and efficient use of weight and space.

Well, I decided to keep it in the end. It's a better amp than the 4-channel one, so I figure it's got the most potential in the long term. If I want a sub or rear speakers, I'll just buy another amp or two

As for the weight, well the plans for a Tek3 will be justified
