Woodstock in ... cable question ..
#1
I got my Woodstock installed last night :-)
- How easy it is these days with standard connector blocks! I used to spend ages with scotchlock/cable connectors/insulating tape as a lad whenever I changed stereo.
Now...
There was a black earth cable on the previous OEM/Phillips unit, which seems to have no connector on the Woodstock.
Also, the unit doesn't dim at night with lights on.
- Which colour cable do I connect to so it will dim??
Also, does it really matter if DAB aerial is mounted front / rear?
Thanks.
Ian.

The wiring loom already has an earth wire in it so you don't need to connect the thicker black wire with the black plug.
You don't want to mount the DAB aerial too close to the factory one. I'd put it on either side of the rear screen or if you have a wagon, I'd put it on the passenger side rear quarter window.
I'm not sure if the Woodstock has a dimmer facility. Check the manual for this.

Woodstock does have a dimmer connection.
Would still like to know what colour wire to attach to this...
Any ideas?
What about cigarette lighter - does this have lights-on illumination?

Use a multimeter or a test light to probe each wire in the cars radio loom. Find the wire that goes to +12v when the lights are switched on and connect it to the h/u's illumination wire. If there isn't one, you'll have to solder a new wire to the sidelight wire at the switch and run it to the headunit.

There's a wiring diagram in the back of the woodstock manual. There is a connection listed for illumination, pin 6 in the bottom A connector.
The subaru loom has a purple wire for radio illumination but I didn't look which pin it was. My radio's been fitted using a scooby to ISO convertor and it's an orange wire in the convertor. I've checked it with a multimeter to the back of the radio and the 12V gets there when the lights are on. But the radio does nothing different when it's on.
The webpage and blaupunkt brochure definetly describes a different lighting scheme at night but there's nothing about it in the manual and mine doesn't do it. I'd be interested if anyone elses does.

Fitted my Woodstock today - what an amazing improvement. Doesn't dim with the lights on. I just used the standard connection adaptor from Autoleads. I know there is a 'lights on' wire back there as my defi gauge is connected to it so it's lights come on when the car lights are on. Would be interested to hear if there is a way of getting the display to dim when the lights are on as it is quite bright.
The unit sounds great though. Mounted the aerial on the rear window, above the heating element on the opposite cormer to the OEM aerial (4dr). Seems to work ok - but then it was working before I stuck the little units to the window.

Concensus suggests this unit does not dim then.
You're right as well - it does seem bright at night.
Anyone tried fitting the steering wheel remote? RC-10 I believe.
Any comments?

No, the woodstock does dim when you turn the lights on, mine does anyway to the extent that the display becomes noticably dimmer in daylight. it even gets dimmer/brighter as I adjust the dash illumination level. I Dont own a scoob by the way. I will try to find the pin to connect the 12v dimming supply to when I get home as I have the pinout somewhere.
edit found it. Looking at the rear of the stereo, look at the power connector ISO (The bottom of the two) with the notch in the bottom left the pins are labeled
1 3 5 7 The 12v switching illumination is connected to pin 6
2 4 6 8
Note. This is looking at the rear of the radio. This pic from the rear of a VW radio should give some idea, the only difference is the reversed main power connection and the fact the 2nd Aux in connector is missing, and just spotted pin 1 and 3 serves a different purpose on the woodstock.
