Hi folks.
Just a quick not to say that I had time this weekend to finally fit the tweeters and crossovers into my STi. Audio G man, I did fit the crossovers in the doors, but on the panel side of the platic so there shouldn't be any problems with condensation. I suspended the crossovers in the hole in the door by drilling holes in old PC blanking pates to support the unit. Works a treat . Anyway, the pictures are on http://www.iainbyoung.co.uk/myscooby.htm...
For those of you that keep asking how to take these doors apart, and what an mdf collar looks like, I've created a page on my site with a simple step by step guide with pictures of both.

Chiark, do you want to add any of this to the faq?
Cheers,
Iain

Iain, excellent work - really helpful. I'd been thinking about replacement speakers and now better prepared to take the plunge. Slightly off topic but are the chrome door openers standard on the sti - and if not where did you get them?

Glad to be of assistance
The chrome door handles are standard on the sti. I suspect if you talk to your dealer they might be able to order some for you (although I have no idea if they would fit the standard wrx).
Cheers,
Iain

MY01/02 standard speakers are 165mm in the front (160 or 170 will fit as long as you make the MDF right).
Back speakers are 130mm; but are harder to mount. I used a 6mm MDF adapter plate and had to mount them onto the "wrong side" i.e. completely inside the door. If people are interested, I'll do a guide on how I did it, but don't have a digital cam, I'm afraid.

A word of warning. I've tried the 130mm Infinitys in the back of my MY01 STi, and they are too big. When I get a bit of free time, I'm going to measure the hole again and will let people know if I find something that will fit.

I thought exactly the same thing with my 130mm Pioneers TS-E1375s :- they won't fit if you mount them conventionally. Although the hole is as big as the cone, you can't get the "basket" in. There's loads of space behind the hole, so use an MDF adaptor plate, feed the speakers and plate inside the door (through the larger rear hole). Reaching inside the door, push them up against the normal hole and clamp it on to the back of the door skin (will draw a picture if people don't follow me). Would lay good odds that the infinity's would fit the same way. Happy to demonstrate to anyone local.
