I've just put one in my MY01 Uk STi (see http://www.iainbyoung.co.uk/myscooby.htm). You have to leave the outside trim off, but otherwise it fits fine

No problems at all. It looks great and sounds even better I've written both MP3 and WMA cds (encoded at various bit rates from 96 up to 320) and it handles them all with ease. If you flip the panel down it displays the mp3 information such as filename, artist, song name etc. The RDS radio is really good and the auto frequency changing as you driver across the country works seemlessly. It also has a DAB controller so if you want to upgrade in the future, you can buy the DAB tuner and plug it in. It also has all the flashy graphics that you'd expect. (I usuually have it on one of the spectrum analysers or the vu meters).

As you can probably gather, I'm chuffed with it

No worries I've put the Infinity 605s in the front. Needed to make an mdf collar to make them fit (they're a bit deeper than the originals), but it was a pretty simple job. Took a couple of hours from start to finish, (the second went in a lot quicker than the first).... They sound soooooo much better, especially with the pioneer head unit

Agree with Iain. Fitted mine myself, it was pretty straightforward and Im well pleased with it.
My only minor niggles are that the display wont scroll automatically, and it would be nice if it indexed the tracks when you load an MP3 CD so you could scroll through the track list like you could on my mstation.

Sounds much better than the standard cr*p. Looking to upgrade speakers next.

Mcs are about the cheapest that I've found (http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk). About £400.

Don't buy one from Halfords. I went into my local store in Swindon and they wanted £600 for it!!!!

Note that you'll also need an iso adapter lead (about a tenner) becuase the new scoobs don't have a standard iso connector on the end of the loom. Got my adapter from http://www.caraudiodirect.com

Cheers
Iain

Buggar, just started thinking again....

Does any of the big names produce a Changer that supports CD/MP3/WMA and would it connect to a DEH-P8400MP???

Just a quick bit of advice: unless you want to get into playing around with FM modulators which are the work of the devil and his little minions, you'll need to stick to the same brand for your CD changer...

At the moment Pioneer only produce normal cd changers. I've got a 6 disc model which supports cd text in which I stick my normal cds. If I want to listen to an mp3 cd, I have to stick it in the head unit itself.

The only company I know of that make an mp3 changer are Kenwood, (and of course you'll need a Kenwood head unit as well). Don'tthink it's available yet though...

Whatever happened to international standards......next we'll have different head unit sizes.

I've noticed Sony do a CD/MP3 6 disc changer, but it's not going to connect the Pioneer head unit.

Chiark, I'm dealt with an old Sony Changer with FM modulation, and yup, they are nasty. especially when it drained my car battery.

So then Audiophilles, should i go with

Option A - Pioneer 8400 and wait for CD/MP3 capable changer
Option B - A Sony head unit with the Xplod 6 CD Changer

It over to you....

It really depends on how many cd-rs of MP3s you want. Personally, I'd go for the pioneer as I think it looks stunning plus looks easy to use.

If you need shedloads of MP3s, then how about an external hard drive based solution? I believe that Lee's soon going to be releasing a unit that doesn't require a modulator and can sit on the changer bus... Mail him for more info?

Nick.

I would try a single disk unit first and see if you really need a changer.

I just got rid of my mstation that had about 150 albums on it, but I always listened to the same albums and the random always chose tracks I didnt want!

You can get 10/11 full albums on a MP3 CD which is more than enough for me. (probably more in WMA)

You wont be disappointed with the 8400, although I did have problems with the steering remote and am waiting for a new one to be sent out to me.

Mark

Same here. I've hooked up a 6-disc changer (I had one laying around from an old installation in a previous vehicle), but haven't actually used it yet!! I plan on using it for stuff which doesn't convert well to mp3 (such as jazz, classical, etc - anything with a large frequency range really). For everything else mp3 is fine.

Just stick in a single mp3 cd and you've got more than enough to keep you going for ages....
