MP3/CD headunit?
#1
Currently I have a Sony tape head unit along with a CD changer and an MD changer. I'd like to keep the changers so I guess the best route is a Sony MP3 headunit.
Has anyone got one? Can it cope with folders on the MP3 CD Rom? Any issues, etc?
Where is a good (read cheap) place to get one from? It needs to have at least 2 sets of RCA outputs!
Thanks

I've got the (now slightly old) Kenwood MP6090R.
It copes with folders, you just press up and down to navigate the tree and left and right to skip tracks.
Only thing that is a bit cr@p is the seek times and the delay between tracks. Its a problem on mixes that have been split into separate MP3's. I have to keep the whole or burn them as CDA.
Just make sure it can read CD-RW as well as CD-R and can cope with different bitrates. The Kenwood will even cope with variable bitrate files.
Mine has 2 sets of RCA's, got is from MCS direct I expect theres a much better alternative available now tho.

Thanks for the replies!
Similar, but not quite Si!
I need a new headunit anyway, but it seems a shame to get rid of CD changer which works fine with no issue!
I guess I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with the Sony CDX-MP30 for example.
It has the 2 pre-outs, CD-R & CD-RW compatability, right price and works with my two changers.
Just wanted to know issues with folders (as there is a limit to the number of files you can have on a root directory of a disk), and now it's been brought up, issues with different bit rates, and speed of reading the disk.
Can't seem to find the unit for less than £180 at the moment. Can anyone recommend any retailer either online or shop that might beat that price?
Thanks

Forgot to mention that I'm not really bothered by how much the sound quality will degrade due to the compression process. I've been using MP3's for a while, and understand what I'm letting myself in for!!
Anyway, that's why I want to keep the MD and CD changers!!

Hi Matt,
To be honest I can justify the extra cash for the MP70! It's £125 more for an extra RCA, but it does look very cool!!
I like the idea of the platter!
The cheapest place the MP30 is http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk
Everywhere else is atout £180-220, they are doing it for £158. They are doing the MP70 for £283.
Hope this helps
