sub direct into head unit?
got a new head unit it has connection for installing a subwoofer , question is what kind of sub can i directly connect to the head unit ,
manual states maximum power output for subwoofer 70w 0.5ohms
subwoofer (mono):-
frequency 50hz/63hz/80hz/100hz/125hz/160hz/200hz
slope -6 db/oct, -12db/oct,
gain +6db to -24db
phase normal/reverse
all of that means nothing to me but thought it might to someone on here

im only considering it because the option is there on this new head unit ,
i'm not going to the expence of amps but if i could wire a sub to this for a bit extra bass i would , all the subwoofers ive seen are at least 2ohm , not sure if it matters

What model radio is it.
Subs need to be powered by an external amp, you won't get any drive from it with no external power source. I take it the sub output is of RCA type on the back of the stereo? They are there to carry signal to an amp which then determines what to do with the signal wether it be hpf or lpf or a mixture if required.
Fitting an amp is a straight forward task providing you have patience to run the wires, actually wiring it is a piece of cake

Subwoofer requires an amp dude.
Those preouts are just carrying the signal as I thought. It has 2 different sets of RCAs by the looks, the 1 set gives you a direct control over the sub levels to a certain degree without having to change the gain levels on the amp as it will probably have a "sub output" within the sound settings to quickly alter it.

This is the one I have, it lives half under the passenger seat in the rear, fastened down by Velcro.
If I need the space, out it comes, undo two plugs from their sockets and stored.
