Default OBP 3 Port Baffled Alloy Oil Catch Cans as cheap as £53.70 *delivered*!!!

I've been looking for a 3 port catch can for a while, and given that there aren't all that many decent ones on the market which don't cost over a hundred, I was recommended the OBP products by a number of people on here.
Having spoken to Sam @ OBP they've kindly offered to do a group buy for us.

Why do you need a catch can?
In short, to stop oil entering your intercooler and intake, which will reduce the octane of your fuel and thus reduce the timing your engine can take when mapping.
It also prevents your intercooler and engine sucking in sludge in the system that can build up from condensation and so on.

What's available?
The group buy includes catch cans for the classic AND new age models.
OBP recommend the baffled one here for classic, or this baffled one for newage:

Note that these do have a fitment at the bottom which would probably allow a return to sump fitting if you wanted to take advantage of that (more relevant for those of you that track your cars).

The group buy discount will be 20% off for 5 cans, and 30% off for 10 or more cans, plus £7.50 for tracked next day delivery.

To put this into perspective, for a baffled can, the price (delivered (normally £7.50)) would be:
Classic 20% off: £60.30 (normally £73.50 posted)
Classic 30% off: £53.70
Newage 20% off: £65.10 (normally £79.50 posted)
Newage 30% off: £57.90

I'm running this group buy over a number of forums up to Friday July 12th so the likelihood is that we should be able to get the full 30% once the initial 10 have made a deposit (I have 3 orders already).

If you're interested, you need to provide a £15 deposit to OBP Motorsport over the phone, quoting the "Mr Noisy" group buy, and then once we reach the required numbers OBP will send you the final invoice, take the remainder of the payment owed and dispatch the can to you.
Sorry about the extra step but they've been burnt in the past by people signing up to the group buy and then failing to pay.
Please ensure you add your name to the list below as well with *Paid* once you've paid the deposit and received the invoice from OBP

Final Note: This price does not include any joiner pipes to connect your catch can - you'll need to buy hosing suitable for oil separately.

For those of you wondering what a catch can is for, took this from Nasioc Catch Can FAQ and translated some words to English :
The point of a catch can is to minimize the amount of oil vapor that's fed into an engine's air intake tract.

If you've taken the intercooler off a car with even a few thousand miles on it, you'll likely have found the inside of it to be coated with a fine layer of oil. This oil coating is also typically found in the 'Y" pipe, the throttlebody, the cold side of the turbo, and the intercooler to throttlebody hose.
This oil coating is very common and isn't usually indicative of a major issue.

There are two, maybe three specific reasons you might want a catch can:

Why do I need a Catch Can?
1) You don't want to effectively lower the octane of the fuel you're running- the oil vapour that doesn't condense on the walls of your intake tract ends up in the cylinder, to be burned away for emissions purposes.
The effective octane of oil is significantly lower than that of petrol; having it in the mix will effectively lower the octane of whatever petrol you're running.

2) You've got an intercooler- by definition an intercooler is part of your intake tract, and It's generally agreed that an intercooler which is internally coated with oil won't be as effective as one that's clean (I (Mr Noisy) can attest to this personally!).

3) You want something pretty under the bonnet .

Where does this oil come from?
On a WRX, this oil gets introduced into the intake tract via two hoses- the one coming from the PCV (Postive Crankcase Ventilation) valve and the valve cover vent lines.

Can't I just vent these lines to atmosphere?
You could indeed, but there are several reasons why you shouldn't.
1) You'll lose the benefit of having the inlet's vacuum help suck filthy air out of your crank case
2) It's bad for the environment
3) It'll make a mess of your engine compartment.
4) It'd let metered air out of the system

Are there any downsides to catch cans?
Having to remember to empty it out periodically is about the only major downside.

£60.30 DELIVERED if we get 20% off or
£53.70 DELIVERED for 30% off

That's a MINIMUM saving of £13.20, and if we get 10 cans £19.80...
Are people not reading this right or something!??

It's also cheaper than the CDF group buy which, no offence intended to them, still hasn't gone into production yet and isn't a proven product yet, so this to me presents a good deal.

(Revised to fix my dodgy maths!)

Thanks - appreciate the response - tbh it was your recommendation that made me start this!
Do you reckon I need to revise it to make it more obvious the postage etc is included?

its early mate, I didn't read it fully just seen the price, only relevant to me as I bought one last year and thought I only paid £60 ish.

its not really a common mod and most people don't really know what it does or how to fit it.

great mod for keeping crap out of your intercooler pipes, id never have another impreza without one.

good luck with the group buy.

Which is strange because:
A) It's more expensive than this (by at least £15 I believe), and
B) They're still not ready and so far I believe the wait has been a few months.
C)The OBP products have been tested and proven whereas Chris and his team will need to test their prototypes before starting to sell em.

Call Sam on +44 (0) 1487 812301 and mention the Mr. Noisy group buy.
I suspect you will incur extra postage charges though.

Ring OBP and they will take your deposit.
As long as 10 people put down the £15 deposit everyone will get the 30% discount prices there mate.
We already have 5, so you're guaranteed 20% at least

Any updates guys?

The more deposits OBP take the more likely they are to give us the 30% discount.
Only a week left...call them to put down your deposit.
Minimum 20% discount is now guaranteed.
