Default Gizzmo LI2 Launch interface 2 & DSII-L shift lights

I have been in contact with Mark at Thwaites Development in Warwick with regards to the new Gizzmo LI2 Launch Interface II and DSII-L shift light, after seeing and hearing them fitted to two different customers cars (one classic wagon and one blobeye), now i'm very tempted!
The pops and bangs were awesome, sounded very much like anti-lag but at a fraction of the cost

For those who don't know what these are see the following link for more info ...
http://gizzmousa.com/launch-controller.html

The interface is the generation 2 and has fully adjustable ignition control, can be installed on any model Impreza (and other cars if required) and comes with shift light to be mounted where desired.

I am very tempted so I asked if Mark could do us some special prices if we had a few more buyers (economies of scale)
To my knowledge Thwaites Developments are the only Subaru specialist supplying AND fitting these new units.
I believe the full price INCLUDING fitting was only £295.

However, if we can get 5 names down Mark will knock it down to only £225 FITTED

If we can get over 5 then he maybe able to go even cheaper so... anybody interested??

I still fail to understand what any launch control system can accomplish without knowing what the tyres/wheels are experiencing........ie differing surfaces/temperatures and conditions......?

There are claims on that link that state "it knocked a second off my time"....??????

Is that from someone who cannot launch there car without either massive wheelspin or bogging down...????

Would this gadget improve my 1/4 mile times.....????

Suppose it would depend how good/confident you are at launching.
Most people I know have LC activated on their Simtek, Motec etc, must be worth while for the majority of users for them to even bother having the LC function i would have thought

PS RRP edited as i'm told it was actually supposed to be £295 fitted

I have them fitted to my Sti Version III, The launch control works very well once you have found the 'ideal' rpm to launch at, given tyres , conditions ect. The units enables you to build boost at a standstill which in turn gives a faster launch without burning your clutch out trying to slip it.

If you can get the perfect launch without the above then fine, but you wont be able to flat shift, and this in turn will give a slight improvement in 1/4 mile times. Plant your right foot to the floor at the start line and keep it there through the gears until your over the finish.

A few pops and bangs during launch and as you change up the gears is a lovely little bonus

Will it wear out your clutch any more, I doubt it. It will be harder on the transmission, but any launch meant with venom will.

12 months since I had mine, and no damage caused as a result. No guarantee you will not break anything, but when is there ?, when you fit uprated parts to your car?, a set of super sticky tyres may cause the clutch to let go, or a remap may give your transmission a head ache.

I,m confused now......i flat shift between 1st and 2nd without this unit....i wouldn,t of though flat shifting the other gears would make a difference.

Dont get me wrong, i,m not trying to pick this product apart.

But if for £225 fitted it would definately improve launching then i would be interested........i,m just a bit sceptical that it is just a gadget.

I am in kenilworth.

The flat shifting prevents over revs during the gear shift, it does this from a preset rpm limit, and during shift keeps positive boost pressure during the change giving you little loss of pressure through the gears and the turbo does not have to spool up again.

I cant see how flat shifting through all gears rather than 1st/2nd can not shave time off due to the nature of how boost is kept at a peak.

While I do not work for Thwaites, if you are local to me I would be happy to take you out and show you the system in operation, any excuse to show off and all that

I guess that makes me a lurker too!

Cheers for explaining how it works 'bmfcrash'

Do you have the version 1 or 2 interface? Reason I ask is that as far as im aware the version 2 is a new release which is capable of adjustable timing of the ignition cut, so in theory should be even safer to use than the older version for extra piece of mind.

I run the version 1 (at the moment !!!) this unit runs a spark cut only, the version 2 (current model) has adjustable ignition retard and spark cut.

Im going to upgrade mine ASAP !!!!.

In essense open source mapping consists of mapping the original ecu.
This Gizzmo interface can be fitted to all Imprezas (including those whose ecu's cannot be remapped i.e early classics).
If you give Mark a call on 01926 403889 i'm sure he'll happily run through the finer details

I would imagine they can be used in conjunction with most ecu's as I believe connections are made to each of the coils?? - However I will have to double check this with Mark when I see him Saturday.
I'm sure bmfcrash who posted earlier had used the older version with his ecu which I believe was Apexi??

Bare with me on this and i'll confirm asap
