Possible SPAL Anti Car Jack Group Buy ?
Given the alarming accounts in the General Forum of a spate of car jackings/thefts, I've contacted Sempal and asked them a few questions about their system - similar in principle to Blackjax I believe except card operated and not codepaded. See their website http://www.sempal.co.uk/acatalog/VEH...Y_SYSTEMS.html for info.
As you can see from the link the are currently advertising the system at £248.99 incl VAT and fitted, but as you can see from the bottom of the copied email below, they are likely to be prepared to do a volume discount, and especially if they are done in one/a number of locations.
So what do you think ? Probably best at this stage if I just ask you to respond to say at what price you're interested with an idea of where you are roughly ie close major town, and we'll see where we go from there.
Here's a copy of my email and Sempal's response (in italics).
1/ The website says the price includes fitting. Where is this done, who does it, and how long does it take ?
Nationwide installation by our trade vehicle security specialists, allow approx. ½ day for installation.
2/ At what point does immobilisation occur if there is no fob? eg is it after 30 secs of driving ? will the car even start without a fob ?
Immobilisation takes place after communication with the ID card is out of range (i.e. approx. 30 metres) + 2½ minutes time delay (to allow car jacker to drive a short/safe distance from you). The engine will then cut as soon as the vehicle is ‘stationary’ (i.e. 0 mph at a junction or traffic lights).
3/ If immobilazation occurs once the car is on the move, how is this done safely ? ie are there any warnings that this is going to happen ?
It is illegal to immobilize a moving vehicle! When the unit is activated the hazards will flash and an optional siren can be installed so that after the 2 ½ minute delay, a loud siren will sound which will make it extremely hard to continue driving, encouraging a thief to pull over, at which point the vehicle will immobilise.
4/ Is the system compatible with a Toad Cat 1 alarm and RAC Tracker ? Indeed, can the system be linked to the Tracker warning system for example?
The unit can be fitted as a stand alone device or there is an output from the ACJ which can be linked to activate our Spal-Sat vehicle tracker system. This system would then text an SMS message to your mobile phone. (You will need to check with manufacturers if installing with other products).
** Edit by T20Driver - The Spal-Sat looks much better that RAC Tracker but is £600 although does not have the annual subscription costs ... http://www.spalsat.co.uk/spalsat.htm Maybe we can get a discount on that too !!**
5/ There apears to be a manual override switch installed. I am presuming that this is placed in an inconspicuous place. Can you confirm please ?
Correct, this is to override the system if say you forgot your ID card!
6/ Are the manual over-ride keys unique, or are they all the same ?
I presume unique. But in any case the override key would hidden in a discrete location.
7/ Can the 'signal' from the fob to the car be captured by a scanner and replicated so that the signal becomes 'cloned' ?
The signals are anti scanner/grabber (i.e. random encrypted).
8/ If I managed to loose or damage a fob or manual overide key, is it possible to purchase a replacement ?
Yes & you can program up to 4 cards per system.
ps ... If I could get enough interest in a 'Group Buy' by Scoobynet people, would you be able to offer a discount on this product ?
Possibly, it would depend on the volume and where all the vehicles are located for installation i.e. could they be in the same location? But I’m sure that we can offer some form of discounts!!!

Sticky Micky ...... re unit pricing ....
"Our vehicle security products are usually supplied and installed through our approved dealer network.
However, as the Spal anti-carjack product isn't for insurance purposes but rather for the owner's peace of mind, we can supply members of Scooby.net who are technically competent to install alarm/immobiliser type products for £149.00 (+p&p)."
Also re .... discount if installing both Anti car jack and Tracker ....
"Yes, you would receive some discount if you ordered the Spal ACJ with the Spal-Sat tracking system. You should expect to pay about £750 for both systems to be fully installed." nb ... normally £250 and £600 if purchased separately.
