Default Fuel cut under load?

Hi all,
Just 'tried' to overtake a car in 3rd gear @ 4000+rpm and it cut out 3 times while doing the manoeuvre. Would this be caused because its sucking in cold air, over boosted and fuel cut or would it be something else? The car is a 1998 uk turbo.

Cheers JP360
