Default sportscat or de-cat?

i cant decide what will be best for my old impreza sport. do i fabricate a straight through pipe where the old cats are or do i just buy a sports cat? iv been looking at cobrasport sportscats, does anyone know if they are good quality? what sort of restriction will i get by fitting a sports cat and will a decat simply be too loud?
any suggestions would be much appreciates.

My mrs has a cobra sport decat section on hers - http://www.cobrasport.com/index.php/...-cat-pipe.html

It's not that loud but you will need a "friendly" mot tester though.

I've got a PPP sports cat with an Afterburner back box - that's pretty damn loud but sails through the mot.

I had a cobra system and sportscat . Wasn't impressed with either. The Eml light on most of the time, mot tests were scraped through after having to rev car for twenty mins to get hot and the main support on the sport cat fractured .
I bought a full hayward and Scott system on my new blob eye and it's superb.

I have a sports cat on mine. It's certainly louder than with the cat and it passes the MOT with ease.

I've got the scoobyworld racebox tailpipe im sure its made by hayward & scott too. They also make the ninja & afterburner (I used to have the afterburner, which is loud) but the racebox is so much more subtle but still nice on throttle! I would recommend this if you want a nice sound that is not too loud on tick over.

You can ask hayward and Scott to do you a quiet back box. That's what I got and it's just right.
Sounds and performs 100% better than the cobra system on my previous wagon.

I'd be wary of a full de-cat, I had an issue with my down pipe (or up pipe I can't remember) anyway I ended up getting a straight through fitted and the mid section and back box were already changed when I bought the car, so now it passes an mot on everything but the emissions, so it's been sitting on my drive for a year
I'm now just replacing the battery because it died and am having to save up for a sports cat or a replacement to get it to pass.

I had a custom exhaust made from manifold back! Loud as you like or quiet as you like! On my sport wagon! Haven't come to a MOT yet but just have to find friendly person!! It does chuck on engine light most days which is annoying but have a reader to give it a check anyway!

I have a cobra sports cat downpipe on my 06 WRX. No others & passes MOT at Subaru garage every year no problems!

Have you tried putting battery on charge? Also if you can't find a friendly tester then im 90% sure if you get yourself the centre cat that goes after downpipe/cat it will still pass mot with just this cat and is cheaper to buy and easy to fit and remove after

You can remap anything with an ECU.

You mean a sports cat? Not a case of 'can' you remap it, but you 'must' remap it.

If it has an ecu you can. Just not massive gains without a turbo

i gotta admit i love my sport, its old and has a few minor problems that iv been slowly sorting out but it sounds the part, it handles way better than my old fiesta and puts a smile on my face every tme i mash my foot into the carpet. going for afterburner decat pipes from scoobyworld, if the noise does my head in too much il get a quiter back can and obviously a remap as itl probly run like a sick pig after iv just lost all its back pressure.

so... iv fitted the hayward and scott decat pipe onto my impreza sport. honestly it was a bit of a ballache to fit. rolling round on the floor, bits of griding and a spot of welding but its on anyway. i gotta say it is abit loud but has a better note now so am toying with the idea of refitting my prodrive back box on and see if that takes some of the tinnyness out of it. also its running fine even after also fitting cold air induction kit so thats a bonus .
