Hi all!

After going from a trusty honda integra I've just got myself a 93 jdm wrx wagon, great car just had problem after problem! Only mods are a s/s turbo back exhaust, dump valve and coilovers, so far my header tank has split which i replaced with a alloy one from a later model, now it's developed a random misfire, speedos stopped working and the front brake pad has ripped it's self to peices!

Now I don't know anything much about these cars, so is there a common fault which causes a random misfire?

I'm trying to find brakes now, found discs but struggling with pads for the standard 2 pots, do the 4 pot pads fit? After Somthing half decent but not ds2500 spec as it's not needed!

Thanks!

The misfire could be down to the speedo not working. The car will go into limp home mode.

4 pot pads won't fit 2 pots. Try these....

Speedo will be either the lead from the back of the speedo that leads into the top of the gearbox, or it's popped off the back of the speedo head itself.

You beat me to it! The car has been driven (possibly hard) for over two decades... how long was the warranty? Three years from new? Things are going to rust, snap, break, fall apart and so on unless you replace every part. I think you are expecting far too much...

Oh I went from a 1996 dc2 type r so I know problems, gearbox pooed itself on that, just didn't think they would be this common only had it 3 weeks lol

Ok thanks for the link to the pads!

The misfire started before the speedo broke, am I right in thinking the plugs need to be regapped with a exhaust?

Sorry for the dumb ness, know Hondas like the back of my hand but going to take some time to Learn a this new boost stuff! Good job this site is here to help!

Coil packs cracking are a common cause of a misfire.

I've almost spent as much on maintaining mine as I did buying it. I'm afraid it does come with the territory.

As above, check the coilpacks, very carefully. They crack at the tip, which is covered by a rubber boot.

You need to remove the boot to check them, and they tend to fall apart when you remove it.

Whilst you're on, change the plugs for NGK PFR7-B's, that's what should be fitted with a decat exhaust.

No I don't believe it's been mapped, hasn't even got a filter so can't see why somone would have bothered!

Thanks for the code with the plugs, really helps having the part numbers from people who know, like I said first boosted car so it's a complete new thing for me!

But apart from these little niggles and the fuel it's using (dear god it's thirsty) is a great practical fun car!

A vent to air dump valve can cause crap running on these cars

Lets not open that can of worms again, Steve.

Get the niggles sorted, look after it and always run it on good fuel and you'll really enjoy it, until the gearbox ***** itself.

Turns out it's my lower speedo cable that's gone, so that's the bit I need!

Talking about coils, can I use later model coils? Did all imprezas come with individual coils?

Not sure what "nope" was a reply to. But https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...onversion.html

You can modify to run different coil systems.

I bought it off a mate who I know had the cambelt and looked after it, but he got it from a guy from Newton Abbott, as much as I really know!

You can use Newage coil packs, little bit of wiring is needed, not a great deal IIRC.

http://www.jamessimpson.co.uk/classi...ck-conversion/

You can even convert the later Phase 1.5/2 cars to run coil on plug, bit more involved I would think, but, you don't need to worry about it.

Yup! As good and powerful as these cars seem, that age doesn't stop growing

Kind of like a *****
