Default exhaust question JDM / USDM

hey folks just a few questions really ive got a UK Hawk STI

at present its got a full 3 inch miltek exhaust incl sports cat

im happy with it but fancy something lighter. so i have came across the Tomei TI exhaust cat back

i know i will have to cut and weld my sports cat to fit

but which one would i need? ive been told the JDM one would be better than the USDM

The JDM only applies to models upto 2004 whilst the USDM goes upto 2007

Cheers

Steve

A jdm is a 2l twinscroll and a uk hawk is a 2.5 the usdm will be a 2.5 too so be best going for that as a jdm wont fit.

Cheers jay I'm aware of the different engine types and that

So you would say a us version would fit then?

I don't think it's got anything to do with engine displacement it's the difference in downpipe lengths

Im pretty sure the us one will fit as its the same engine, a jdm one defo wont though as its a different length due to the downpipe being different.

Cheers jay

My problem is either way I'm probably gonna have to chop my milltek sports cat just a little bit

Wondering if the hangers on th usdm model are in the same sides as us

Sure the jdm hangers are?

Is the cat not in the downpipe? the us exhaust will bolt straight up2 the downpipe with no cutting, the jdm is only different because it uses a twinscroll turbo meaning parts of the exhaust are longer, a uk or us spec 2.5 will be fine

Yes the centre section is smaller on the JDM so it wont fit (as Jay said, different length of down pipe) but they were all the same length from the MY05 cars onwards.

A jdm will defo not fit as they use a different downpipe due to them being twin scroll, the downpipe on your milltek will mate up to the uk or us spec exhaust as long as they are both 3" if you buy a jdm exhaust it will be too short, seems a lot of grief tho to change to a lighter exhaust, ive got a milltek exhaust on my jdm 2l and its a really good system i dont think id change it.

cheers for the reply guys and ive had a reply from tomei in the USA

Thank you for your interest on our product.
We are sorry we have not test fitted this product with the UKDM STI, so
we cannot adivise you properly, but I would like to explain you the
difference between JDM and USDM.

USDM oem down pipe is a little bit shorter than JDM oem down pipe. So,
in the USDM kit we include the thicker gasket to fill the gap between
down pipe and exhaust.
You can find kit contents in our installtion manual and please refer it.
http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/manuals/pdf...me_muffler.pdf
Hopefully it will help you.

now the JDM version doesnt come with any gaskets as your supposed to re-use your own but the US version comes with x2 (4mm and 2mm) the 4mm is to be used with the stock DP and the 2mm with the aftermarket
