Default 20g turbo classic '96 wrx

What does anyone here reckon to fitting a 20g turbo to classic '96 wrx import with 85k on clock, and how much power and boost can you get away with reasonably safely. Mine is about 270bhp 0.8 bar boost,EJ 20 engine standard turbo.

As above.
What supporting mods? Mine (2.5 forged) has 740cc injectors for an HS TD05 20g.

Your current WRX is 280 on a standard turbo at 0.8 bar? You sure it's the WRX and not an STI with that figure?

I ran a 20g on a stock ej20G. Within 6 months I blew a gear box and cracked 2 pistons!
Now on a forged engine, personally I love the 20G on the 2L. The billet turbo is a huge improvement on the norm.

20G is not recommended on standard classic engine and 752 box.

You want the smallest turbo capable of meeting you power goals, a 20G is a 400bhp capable turbo which is way beyond where you want to go with a standard engine.

You'll have a 16G on your car which imo is as big as you want to go before major work. With the right supporting mods you can see circa 340bhp.

As far as I can see, it's a wrx jap import, applied model code is for a v-limited but engine code is for a sti ej20g dw5he, it's pretty pokey and my 2nd scoob. There is no number xxx/1000 on it so don't reckon its a v-limited. Either a wrx jdm or a 2nd gen sti. Confusing but may leave as is for now.

The model codes for Vlimiteds and regular cars are the same as they use the same shell.
Whats the model code on yours ??

Also, forget engine codes. In the early days subaru mixed and matched.

I'll be totally honest, I don't know then. I always thought the WRX V limited was in 53C blue like the STI V2 555 but I could be wrong.

Im sure someone on here will know, maybe PM the owner of that one in my link

It's def not a v limited. I matched the engine and transmission and colour and option codes to what seems to be a v2 sti, it also has no coil pack on the top of the manifold, if that matters. just the anomaly is the applied model code of a v-limited, but as you say they used the same chassis. I bought it from someone who obviously has no idea about imprezas. They sold it to me as a turbo 2000. I spotted it was at least a wrx jdm. Who knows?

Definitely not a good idea the mileage is far to high to be stressed with a 20g .expect things to break anytime even left as standard -20g will speed things up

As I said, forget the engine and transmission codes. These can be very missleading and not a sure fire way of depicting a model on the early cars. Your car is certainly not a STI for instance even though after your investigation it seems to be. STI V2 wasn't available in blue either apart from the 555 edition (53c only). And the STI shared the same box as the WRX too.
The coil pack was not seen on top of the inlet manifold until the V3 cars.

Im pretty sure the Vlimiteds were 53C blue but im not 100%.
