Default Engine block finish

Morning all!

I've seen on some of the really extensive builds people painting the engine block. I know it's not the old school enamel paint but what is it? Just very high temp silver paint? I'm in the middle of removing the engine and thought it might be an idea to tidy the block up, powder coat rocker covers etc

Thanks! Adam

when i fitted a new engine in my old civic i painted it with silver hammerite spray paint. it smelt a bit to start with but after a couple of days was fine. i also turbo'd it while i was there so there was some serious heat under the bonnet and i never had a problem. it went on great as well.
i've painted my header tank on the impreza with the same stuff and that gets hot and again no problems at all

The heads on mine were "soda blasted" apparently and the cases painted with a premium VHT. It doesn't look so smart now its done a few thousand miles. Degreased, then sprayed with WD the blasted parts look good again.
I used Halfords VHT spray on the inlet and alternator. Don't use it, its crap. Chips easy and comes off with degreaser or APC. I wish I'd had the cases and ancillaries blasted as well.

As it looked when it left finch motorsport.
