Help needed!! 96 STi overboosting problem!!
Hi guys!! new to this forum and seen alot of threads and thought you guys could help me!
I just got my first scooby yesterday, its a 96 sti. I took it in p/x with my race quad and love it! however... when i went to view it he told me that it wouldnt boost properly because it needed a boost restrictor pill. I knew the guy so trusted him and went ahead with the deal. Upon picking it up i drove it home carefully not wanting to do any damage. This morning I rang P.A.C.E, a local motorsport/rally workshop and told them what was happening and that the previous owner said it needed a boost pill. The guy on the phone told me to pop down without the scooby incase i damaged it, he gave me some silicone pipe and a 0.8 boost pill and said it should work giving the info/symptoms i described to him. I went straight home, fitted it from the bottom of the boost solenoid to the air box (where the previous pipe was in place) took it down the road and is slightly better but not much. I drove it down to the guy at PACE and he looked at it, and said that where i had put the pipe was wrong and that it should go from the actuator to some other place and showed me his rally car and he had no pipe coming from the bottom of his boost solenoid ?
I have read through a few threads where people are saying to check the clocks as this can affect fuel/ecu etc. I did notice driving it home that when i was doing around 30mph the clocks said i was doing 60mph? also there is an electrical ticking noise coming from what seems underneath the dash drivers side which was also linked to the clocks in a previous thread??
It climbs to around 4k before playing up and "hitting a brick wall as they say"
also the engine warning light is flashing on and off randomly whilst driving
I know in a previous thread someone solved this buy re-doing the wiring to the injectors as it was a funny connection and cutting fuel etc??
Someone please help me! I have no idea what to do other than check the connections on the injectors tomorrow?
Any ideas? ive tried to put as much info as possible to help you understand so sorry about the essay!
Thanks in advance peeps,
Aaron

Ok so i spoke to one of the members on here on the phone and was told to check that the pipe with the restrictor pill in (from bottom of boost solenoid to air box resonator) and check that where it joins into the airbox that the plastic outlet thing wasnt snapped. it was! and has been repaired badly so ive made up a piece of metal to go from the pipe to the airbox and made sure it was air tight/pressure tight or whatever. I will be fitting it back on in the morning and going for a run so will let you know what happens!
Also spoke to Imprezaworks (Dan) who told me of his similar problem and ended up being the gearbox mph/kmph converter thing so that is next on the list if it doesnt go well tomorrow as my clocks are way out anyway!
Thanks for the responses and help! its VERY appreciated! (:

Just read yours is a 96 car..
Yours should be a 2mm pill in the vent pipe at the bottom.
This is a good thread...

apparently from that thread there my 96 sti should be running a 0.9 pill, im running a 0.8 pill so will be running more boost than it should?? could the smaller pill im using be causing it to overboost or induce fuel cut? as far as im aware my exhaust etc is completely standard and i have no boost gauge or anything! so im guessing its just guess work from here messing with the size of the pill and checking for leaks? cheers for the response matty

just be carefully when playing with the pills as it may cause overboost. may have to try a few sizes till you get the correct boost pressure...
just a little tip.. mig welding tips from machine mart slide into some silicone hose works perfect. there cheap and to a few different sizes
