Hesitation under light throttle
I was test driving a 2005 Sti today - it was ticking over for about 5 minutes before I took it out, so it was not completely cold. The temp gauge was about a third from the bottom. When driving slowly with a little throttle at low revs the car seemed to have a slight hesitation or misfire. Do they all do this when cold or is it a sign something isn't right? When idling it was ticking over fine but every now and again the revs would dip a little. Any ideas?
Finally - do they ride worse with 18inch rims? Seemed to be a bit too solid, prefer a bit more flex in my tyres. I take it the 17inch standard rims work better on the Sti for driving?

I went from 19" Kahn alloys on my 54 plate STi PPP down to standard 17" wheels wearing Bridgestone Potenza RE070's. This was years ago, but I still use the Potenza's on my 07 Spec D today. (17")
Much more driveable and generally a better ride in my experience.
Potenza can be a little noisy, but I don't care! I think they are on the brink of being a barely legal road tyre, and almost a track tyre.

Thanks, good to hear that from someone else. If I go for it I will probably try and swap the pff7's for the standard 17 rims.
More worried about the hesitation under very light throttle, anyone experienced this before? Was quite a cold day and I don't think the car was fully warmed up, is this normal?

Suppose it could be? Was only under very light constant throttle, didn't give it too much. The owner took me out last night and was giving it full chat. Seemed to pull well but there was also a dip in power between gear changes. Has a forge dump valve fitted, it didn't seem like turbo lag either, it felt very "jerky" between gears when pushing hard.
